As QTAKE continues its mission to provide the industry’s most advanced video assist solution, the focus is shifting fully toward QTAKE Pro. Developing future-proof tools is essential for keeping pace with evolving production requirements, and QTAKE Pro represents this ongoing commitment.
Sunsetting QTAKE 1.6
We deeply appreciate the many users who have relied on QTAKE 1.6 (legacy QTAKE) over the years. Please rest assured that your permanent legacy licenses will remain usable “as-is” on compatible hardware, in line with existing system requirements. However, the gradual phase-out of legacy QTAKE is approaching its final stage:
- March 2022 | Sale of permanent legacy licenses was discontinued.
- May 2024 | Maintenance of legacy QTAKE officially ended with the release of QTAKE 1.6.044, exceeding the original maintenance commitment through 2023.
- ⚠️⚠️ January 2026 | Sale of short-term legacy licenses through the QTAKE Rental Shop will no longer be available, and technical support will cease troubleshooting tickets related to use of legacy software.
Options for Legacy License Owners
▫️ OPTION #1
Continue using your license as-is
Permanent legacy licenses will remain functional indefinitely on hardware that meets the system requirements. If you have any concerns about compatibility of your system with QTAKE 1.6, please contact tech support before January 2026. Please also note that other elements of the QTAKE ecosystem – such as QTAKE Cloud, QTAKE Server, or future QTAKE-related hardware and firmware – may not be compatible with legacy licenses going forward.
Q: I already have a virtual permanent 1.6 licence. Can I still use it going forward?
A: Yes, that functionality won’t be impacted. You can see more information about your virtual license in the Shop, on the dashboard, under 1.x License Pools. You will still be able to use these modules in legacy QTAKE, but you won’ t be able to add more modules, such as X4 or PRO. Example: Let’s say you have a permanent virtual license for HDx2. If you want to keep using HDx2 on your jobs, you can still do it with the legacy QTAKE, by downloading free licenses from your permanent license pool. But if you’d like to use HDx4 on a job, you would need to combine your virtual HDx2 with a Pro Upgrade module and X4 module, which will yield a 4 camera license under QTAKE Pro.

Use legacy most of the time, with occasional upgrade to QTAKE Pro
Short-term rentals of the Pro Upgrade module are available in the QTAKE Rental Shop. This module temporarily upgrades a virtual permanent legacy license to QTAKE Pro, with the option to add additional modules such as X4, STREAM, DOLBY, FORENSIC etc. Once the validity of the Pro Upgrade module expires, the permanent license will automatically return to its original “legacy” state. Important: the Pro Upgrade is only available to users with a virtual permanent license.

Upgrade to QTAKE Pro long-term
For users who want to benefit from the latest technologies and hardware platforms, there are two long-term rental options available (1-year or 3-year):
- Pro Upgrade module, which requires an existing virtual permanent legacy license
- Standalone QTAKE Pro plan with custom modules and the unique Hibernation feature that extends plan validity when not in use for 30 days.
Currently the 3-year Pro Upgrade module as well as 3-year QTAKE Pro plans are available at a 24% discount until August 24, 2025. With the deadline fast approaching, now is the right moment to secure the future of your setup with QTAKE Pro.
Looking Ahead
From January 2026 onwards, QTAKE Pro will be the only application receiving support and updates. The transition marks an important step in ensuring that QTAKE remains the most advanced and future-ready video assist solution for the industry.
