As we begin a new year, we’d like to thank you for continuing to work with QTAKE. The industry constantly evolves, and so do the challenges it brings. We remain fully committed to developing the most advanced video assist solutions and hybrid on-set/off-set collaboration tools to support you in an increasingly demanding production environment.
Today, we’d like to share an overview of the changes coming in January 2026, so you know what to expect in the next few weeks. The most important changes will affect QTAKE Server, which will be renamed to QTAKE Sync and moved to the new (QTAKE Pro) license configurator, as well as the upcoming end of sales and support for legacy QTAKE licenses.
QTAKE Server → QTAKE Sync
Name Change
QTAKE Server will be renamed to QTAKE Sync to better reflect its core purpose: synchronization of assets and metadata across units. As you may already know, QTAKE Server (QTAKE Sync) helps teams unlock the full potential of on-set data and make informed decisions in real time, rather than relying on information that reaches departments hours or even days later.
New Licensing System
Along with the new name, QTAKE Sync will be moved from the legacy configurator to the new licensing system, already familiar from QTAKE Pro. This change does not affect software compatibility and offers two key benefits:
- Easy license activation and deactivation (no longer tied to a specific computer)
- Cost-effective 1-year and 3-year rental plans, including the popular Hibernation feature
Product Details
The upcoming release will also introduce user experience improvements such as free uploads, progress indicators, and more. QTAKE Sync will remain compatible with both QTAKE Pro and legacy QTAKE systems. The update will be released within two weeks.
End of Legacy QTAKE Sales and Support – Feb 02, 2026
As announced in August 2025, we are completing the phase-out of sales and support for legacy licenses. Below is a brief overview of what will remain the same and what will change starting February 2, 2026, for users of different types of legacy licenses. Additional details about the transition, including user guide articles, will follow.
The sale of legacy licenses refers to placing a paid order in the QTAKE Rental Shop to rent a short-term legacy license. This includes orders for overlapping days or for add-on modules not included in a permanent license. The support of legacy licenses refers to technical assistance for the installation, updates, use, and troubleshooting of legacy QTAKE software. After the end of support, these requests will no longer be handled by technical support.
Virtual Permanent Legacy Licenses
- Your existing permanent legacy modules remain fully available, and you can continue to use them for free as-is through the legacy license configurator, as long as you do not need to place a paid legacy license order.
- If you need to rent a license that includes add-on module(s), you can do so through the QTAKE Pro configurator. Your legacy modules with free days will count as already paid and act as a discount. You will only be charged an upgrade fee (PRO UPGRADE module) plus the price of any add-on modules. The resulting license will be solely compatible with the QTAKE Pro application.
- The PRO UPGRADE module is available in the QTAKE Rental Shop at a daily rate ($70 / 67 €), weekly rate ($210 / 201 €), or monthly rate ($700 / 670 €), as well as in their combinations. The most cost-effective option is a long-term rental: 1 year ($2,800 / 2.680 €, equivalent to a daily rate of $7.67 / 7.34 €) or 3 years ($7,000 / 6.700 €, equivalent to a daily rate of $6.40 / 6.12 €). Long-term PRO UPGRADE rentals are available through QTAKE resellers and do not include the Hibernation feature.
- Technical support will no longer assist with legacy QTAKE-related issues. If you have any technical support requests related to legacy software, please submit your tickets before the end of January 2026.
Dongle-Based Permanent Legacy Licenses
- Your existing permanent legacy modules remain fully available, and you can continue to use them for free as-is at the time of purchase. Short-term add-on modules are no longer available for legacy QTAKE licenses.
- If you need to rent a license for add-on module(s), you can only do so through the QTAKE Pro configurator. Since your permanent legacy license is not virtualized, you will only be able to rent a completely new QTAKE Pro license at full price, and your legacy license will not count as a discount toward the QTAKE Pro rental. The resulting license will be solely compatible with the QTAKE Pro application.
- We strongly recommend virtualizing your dongle-based permanent license so that it can be applied as a discount toward QTAKE Pro rentals, as described in the “Virtual Permanent Legacy Licenses” section above. Virtualizing your license prepares you for any scenario (using your legacy license without add-on modules on one project while upgrading it with add-on modules for the next one) as well as protects your permanent legacy license from loss.
- Technical support will no longer assist with legacy QTAKE related issues. If you have any technical support requests related to legacy software, please submit your tickets before the end of January 2026.
Short-Term Legacy Licenses
- Short-term legacy licenses will no longer be available in the QTAKE Rental Shop.
- Technical support will no longer assist with legacy QTAKE related issues. If you have any technical support requests related to legacy software, please submit your tickets before the end of January 2026.
- We encourage users of legacy QTAKE to rent a QTAKE Pro license instead. QTAKE Pro runs on most systems, including older configurations, as long as they meet software and hardware requirements. Rentals are generally more affordable than legacy QTAKE, thanks to custom bundles in QTAKE Pro. In addition, the long-term 1-year and 3-year QTAKE Pro plans offer even better value and include the unique Hibernation feature for your investment protection.
- Switching to QTAKE Pro ensures the latest features, peak performance, full support, and a cost-effective alternative to short-term legacy QTAKE rentals.
